Dog Grooming Needs By Breed

If you have a dog, you know that proper grooming is part of a keeping your pet healthy. Different breeds of dogs require different levels of care. We have made this list mindful of the warm summers in Butte County, but grooming needs may be more restrictive for indoor dogs that shed and outdoor dogs that get stickers and burrs. The list below is a list of many dog breeds that generally have High, Moderate and Low Grooming needs. This list is for general information only, and may not reflect the needs of your dog. If you have any questions on what is appropriate for your dog, please reach out to us and we will be happy to answer your questions.

Dog Breeds Who Need Frequent Grooming

Dogs with long hair or thick and curly coat need to be brushed and combed 3-4 times per week. Bathing is necessary to keep away breeding of hidden ticks and mites. Some dog owners prefer to keep the fur long while others clip the long hair every 8 weeks or so. For the sake of the dog’s health and appearance, clipping or combing away the bad mats is a must. Hair around the eyes and ears must be clipped to maintain good vision and hearing.
